1) Then set not up
rivals unto Allah when ye know (the truth). (Surah 2, Al-Baqarah, or the
Heifer, verse 22 [last part]).
2) Yet there are men
who take (for worship) others beside Allah, as equal (with Allah); they love
them as they should love Allah. But those of Faith are overflowing in their
love for Allah. If only the unrighteous could see, behold, they would see the
Punishment; that to Allah belongs all power, and Allah will strongly enforce
the Punishment. Then would those who are followed clear themselves of those who
follow (them): they would see the Chastisement and all relations between them
would be cut off. (Surah 2, Al-Baqarah or the Heifer, verses 165-166).
3) He hath only
forbidden you -----and that on which any other name hath been invoked besides
that of Allah. (Surah 2, Al- Baqarah or the Heifer, Verse 183).
4) Say: ‘O people of
the Book! Come to common terms as between us and you: That we worship none but
Allah; that we associate no partners with Him; that we erect not, from
ourselves lords and patrons other than Allah.’ If then they turn back, say ye:
Bear witness that we (at least) are Muslims (bowing to Allah’s Will)’. (Surah
3, Al-Imran, verse 64).
5) It is not (possible)
that a man, to whom is given the Book, and wisdom, and the Prophetic Office,
should say to people: ‘Be ye my worshippers rather than Allah’s?’ On the
contrary (He would say): ‘Be ye worshippers of Him (Who is truly the Cherisher
of all) for ye have taught the Book and ye have studied it earnestly’. Nor
would he instruct you to take angels and prophets for Lords and Patrons, What!
Would he bid you to unbelief after ye have bowed your will (to Allah in
Islam)?’ (Surah 3, Al-Imran, verses 79-80).
6) Serve Allah, and
join not any partners with Him and do good... (Surah 4, An-Nisa, Verse 36
Part).
7) Allah forgiveth not
that partners should be set up with Him; but He forgiveth anything else, to
whom He pleaseth; to set up partners with Allah is to devise a sin most heinous
indeed. (Surah 4, An-Nisa, Verse 48 Part).
8) Allah forgiveth not (the
sin of) joining other gods with Him; but he forgiveth whom he pleaseth other
sins than this. (Surah 4 An-Nisa Verse 116 Part).
9) Forbidden to you
(for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath
been invoked the name of other than Allah.... (Surah 5 Al-Maida Verse 3 Part).
10) Whoever joins other
gods with Allah - , Allah will forbid him the Garden and the Fire will be his
abode. (Surah 5 Al-Maida Verse 72 Part).
11) Say, ‘Will ye
worship besides Allah, something which hath no power either to harm or benefit
you? ‘ .... . (Surah 5 Al-Maida Verse 76 Part).
12) ....and be not thou
of the company of those who join gods with Allah.... (Surah 6, Al-An’am, Verse
14 Part).
13) On the day shall We
gather them all together: We shall say to those who ascribed partners (to us):
‘where are the partners whom ye (invented and) talked about!’ (Surah 6,
Al-An’am, Verse 22).
14) Say: ‘I am
forbidden to worship those – others than Allah- whom ye call upon.’ (Surah 6,
Al-An’am, Verse 56 Part).
15) Say, ‘It is Allah
that delivereth you for these and all (other) distresses: and yet ye worship
false gods!’ (Surah 6, Al-An’am, Verse 64).
16) ‘And behold! Ye
come to Us bare and alone as We created you for the first time....We see not
with you your intercessors whom ye thought to be partners in your affairs ....’
(Surah 6, Al-An’am, Verse 94 Part).
17) Yet they make the
Jinns equals with Allah, though Allah did create the Jinns; and they falsely,
having no knowledge, attribute to Him sons and daughters, praise and glory be
to Him! (for He is) above what they attribute to Him. ’ (Surah 6, Al-An’am,
Verse 100).
18) Wonderful
Originator of the heavens and the earth: how can He have a son when He hath no consort?
’ (Surah 6, Al-An’am, Verse 101 Part).
19) Follow what thou
art taught by inspiration from thy Lord: there is no god but He: and turn aside
from those who join gods with Allah. (Surah 6, Al-An’am, Verse 106).
20) If it had been
Allah’s Will, they would not have taken false gods: but We made thee not one to
watch over their doings, nor art thou set over them to dispose of their
affairs. (Surah 6, Al-An’am, Verse 107).
21) Those who give partners
(to Allah) will say: ‘If Allah had wished, we should not have given partners to
Him, nor would our fathers; nor should we have had any forbidden thing’. So did
their ancestors argue falsely, until they tasted of Our wrath.... (Surah 6,
Al-An’am, Verse 148 Part).
22) Follow (Oh men!)
the revelation given unto you from your Lord; and follow not, as friends or
protectors other than Him. Little it is ye remember of admonition. (Surah 7,
Al-Ar’af, Verse 3).
23) Say: ‘ The things
that my Lord hath indeed forbidden are : indecent deeds, whether open or secret:
sins and trespasses against truth or reason; assigning of partners to Allah,
for which He hath given no authority; and saying things about Allah of which ye
have no knowledge. (Surah 7, Al-Ar’af, Verse 33).
24) ....until, when Our
Messengers (of death) arrive and take their souls, they say: ‘where are the
things that ye used to invoke besides Allah?’ they will reply, ‘they have left
us in the lurch.....’ (Surah 7, Al-Ar’af, Verse 37 Part).
25) Do they indeed
ascribe to Him as partners things that can create nothing, but are themselves
created? No aid can they give them, nor
can they aid themselves. (Surah 7, Al-Ar’af, Verse 191-192).
26) Verily those whom
ye call upon besides Allah are servants like unto you: call upon them, and let
them listen to your prayer, if ye are (indeed) truthful! (Surah 7, Al-Ar’af,
Verse 194).
27) They take their
priests and their anchorites to be their Lords besides Allah. And (they take as
their Lord) Christ the son of Mary; yet they were commanded to worship but one
God: there is no God but He: praise and
glory to Him: (far is he) from having the partners they associate (with Him).
(Surah 9, At- Tauba, Verse 31).
28) They serve, besides
Allah, what can hurt them not nor profit them, and they say: ‘These are our
intercessors with Allah.’ Say: ‘Do ye indeed inform Allah of something He knows
not in the heavens or on earth? Glory to Him! And far is He above the partners
they ascribe (to Him)!’ (Surah 10, Yunus, Verse 18).
29) One Day shall We
gather them all together. Then Shall We say to those who joined gods (with Us):
‘To your place! Ye and those ye joined as partners.’ We shall separate them,
and their partners shall say: ‘it was not us that ye worshipped! Enough is
Allah for a witness between us and you: we certainly knew nothing of your
worship of us!’ (Surah 10, Yunus, Verses 28 and 29).
30) Say: ‘Of your partners,
can any originate creation and repeat it?’ Say: ‘It is Allah Who originates
creation and repeats it: then how are ye deluded away (from the truth)?’ Say:
‘Of your partners, is there any that can give any guidance towards truth?’ Say:
‘It is Allah Who gives guidance towards truth. Is then He who gives guidance to
truth more worthy to be followed or he who finds not guidance (himself) unless
he is guided? What then is the matter with you? How judge ye?’ But most of them
follow nothing but conjecture: truly conjecture can be of no avail against
truth. Verily Allah is well aware of all that they do. (Surah 10, Yunus, Verses
34, 35 and 36).
31) Behold! Verily to
Allah belong all creatures, in the heavens and on earth. What do they follow
who worship as His ‘partners’ other than Allah? They follow nothing but
conjecture, and they do nothing but lie. (Surah 10, Yunus, Verse 66).
32) “Nor call on any,
other than Allah; such can neither profit thee nor hurt thee; if thou dost,
Behold! Thou shall certainly be of those who do wrong. (Surah 10, Yunus, Verse
106).
33) ‘If then they (your
false gods) answer not your (call), know ye that this Revelation is sent down
(replete) with the knowledge of Allah, and that there is no god but He! Will ye
even then submit (to Islam)?’ (Surah 11, Hud, Verse 14).
34) It was not We that wronged them: They wronged their
own souls: the deities, other than Allah, whom they invoked, profited them no whit
when there issued the decree of thy Lord : Nor did they add aught (to their
lot) but perdition! (Surah 11, Hud, Verse 101).
35) Be not then in doubt as to what these men
worship. They worship nothing but what their fathers worshipped before (them):
but verily We shall pay them back (in full) their portion without (the least)
abatement. (Surah 11, Hud, Verse 109).
36) And most of them
believe not in Allah without associating (other as partners) with Him! (Surah
12, Yusuf, verse 106).
37) For Him (alone) is prayer in Truth: any
others that they call upon besides Him hear them no more than if they were to
stretch forth their hands for water to reach their mouths but it reaches them
not: for the prayer of those without Faith is nothing but (futile) wandering
(in the mind). (Surah 13, Al-Ra’d, verse 14).
38) Is then He who standeth over every soul
(and knoweth) all that it doth, (like any others)? And yet they ascribe
partners to Allah. Say: "But name them! Is it that ye will inform Him of
something he knoweth not on earth, or is it (just) a show of words?"
(Surah 13, Al-Ra’d, verse 33, part).
39) Those whom they invoke besides Allah create
nothing and are themselves created. (They are things) dead, lifeless: nor do
they know when they will be raised up (Surah 16, An-Nahl, verses 20-21).
40) He has only forbidden you dead meat, and blood,
and the flesh of swine, and any (food) over which the name of other than Allah
has been invoked. But if one is forced by necessity, without willful disobedience,
nor transgressing due limits, - then Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful
(Surah 16, An-Nahl, verses 115).
41) And they have taken (for worship) gods
other than Allah, to give them power and glory! Instead, they shall reject
their worship, and become adversaries against them. (Surah 19, Maryam, verses
81-82).
42) They call on such deities, besides Allah,
as can neither hurt nor profit them: that is straying far indeed (from the
Way)! (Perhaps) they call on one whose harm is nearer than his profit: evil,
indeed, is the patron, and evil the companion (for help)! (Surah 22, Al-Hajj,
verses 12-13).
43) Yet they worship, besides Allah, things for
which no authority has been sent down to them, and of which they have (really)
no knowledge: for those that do wrong there is no helper. (Surah 22, Al-Hajj,
verse 71).
44) O men! Here is a parable set forth! Listen
to it! Those on whom, besides Allah, ye call, cannot create (even) a fly, if
they all met together for the purpose! And if the fly should snatch away
anything from them, they would have no power to release it from the fly. Feeble
are those who petition and those whom they petition! No just estimate have they
made of Allah. For Allah is He Who is strong and able to carry out His Will. Allah
chooses Messengers from angels and from men, for Allah is He Who hears and sees
(all things) (Surah 22, Al-Hajj, verses 73-74-75).
45) Say: "Who is it in whose hands is the
governance of all things, - who protects (all), but is not protected (of any)?
(Say) if ye know." They will say,
"(It belongs) to Allah." Say: "Then how
are ye deluded?" We have sent them the
Truth: but they indeed practice falsehood! No
son did Allah beget, nor is there any god along with Him: (if there were many
gods), behold, each god would have taken away what he had created, and some
would have lorded it over others! Glory to Allah. (He is free) from the (sort
of) things they attribute to Him! He knows what is hidden and what is open: too
high is He for the partners they attribute to Him! (Surah 23, Al-Mu’minun, verses
88-89-90-91-92).
46) If anyone invokes, besides Allah, any other
god, he has no authority thereof; and his reckoning will be only with his Lord!
And verily the Unbelievers will fail to win through! (Surah 23, Al-Mu’minun,
verse 117).
47) Yet have they taken, besides him, gods that
can create nothing but are themselves created; that have no control of hurt or
good to themselves; nor can they control death nor life nor resurrection.
(Surah 25, Al-Furqan, verse 3).
48) Or,
Who listens to the (soul) distressed when it calls on Him, and Who relieves its
suffering, and makes you (mankind) inheritors of the earth? (Can there be
another) god besides Allah. Little it is that ye heed! (Surah 27, An-Naml,
verse 62).
49) Or, Who originates creation, then repeats
it, and who gives you sustenance from heaven and earth? (Can there be another)
god besides Allah. Say, "Bring forth your argument, if ye are telling the
truth!"(Surah 27, An-Naml, verse 64).
50) We have enjoined on man kindness to
parents: but if they (either of them) strive (to force) thee to join with Me
(in worship) anything of which thou hast no knowledge, obey them not. Ye have
(all) to return to Me, and I will tell you (the truth) of all that ye did.
(Surah 29, Al-Ankabut, verse 8).
51) The
parable of those who take protectors other than Allah is that of the spider,
who builds (to itself) a house; but truly the flimsiest of houses is the
spider´s house; - if they but knew.
(Surah
29, Al-Ankabut, verse 41).
52) Turn ye back in repentance to Him, and fear
Him: establish regular prayers, and be not ye among those who join gods with
Allah, - Those who split up their Religion, and become (mere) Sects, - each party
rejoicing in that which is with itself! (Surah 30. Ar-Rum, verses 31-32).
53) It is Allah Who has created you: further,
He has provided for your sustenance; then He will cause you to die; and again
He will give you life. Are there any of your (false) "Partners" who
can do any single one of these things? Glory to Him! And high is He above the partners
they attribute (to Him)! (Surah 30. Ar-Rum, verses 40).
54) Such is the Creation of Allah. Now show Me what
is there that others besides Him have created: nay, but the Transgressors are
in manifest error. (Surah 31. Luqman, verses 11).
55) Say: "Call upon other (gods) whom ye
fancy, besides Allah. They have no power, - not the weight of an atom, - in the
heavens or on earth: No (sort of) share have they therein, nor are any of them
a helper to Allah. (Surah 34, Saba, verse 22).
56) If ye invoke them, they will not listen to
your call, and if they were to listen, they cannot answer your (prayer). On the
Day of Judgment they will reject your "Partnership". And none, (O
man!) can tell thee (the Truth) like the One Who is acquainted with all things.
(Surah 35, Fatir, verse 14).
57) Is it not to Allah that sincere devotion is
due? But those who take for protectors other than Allah (say): "We only
serve them in order that they may bring us nearer to Allah." Truly Allah
will judge between them in that wherein they differ. But Allah guides not such
as are false and ungrateful. (Surah 39, Az-Zumar, verse 3).
58) Is not Allah enough for his Servant? But
they try to frighten thee with other (gods) besides Him! For such as Allah
leaves to stray, there can be no guide. (Surah 39, Az-Zumar, verse36).
59) When Allah, the One and Only, is mentioned,
the hearts of those who believe not in the Hereafter are filled with disgust
and horror; but when (gods) other than He are mentioned, behold, they are
filled with joy! (Surah 39, Az-Zumar, verse 45).
60) But it has already been revealed to thee, -
as it was to those before thee, - "If thou wert to join gods with Allah,
truly fruitless will be thy work (in life), and thou wilt surely be in the
ranks of those who lose (all spiritual good)". (Surah 39, Az-Zumar, verse
65).
61) No
just estimate have they made of Allah, such
as is due to Him: On the Day of Judgment the whole of the earth will be but His
handful, and the heavens will be rolled up in His right hand: Glory to Him!
High is He above the Partners they attribute to Him! (Surah 39, Az-Zumar, verse
67).
62) And Allah will judge with (justice and)
Truth: but those whom (men) invoke besides Him, will not (be in a position) to
judge at all. Verily it is Allah (alone) Who hears and sees (all things). (Surah
40, Al-Mumin, verse 20).
63) Say thou: "I am but a man like you: It
is revealed to me by Inspiration, that your Allah is one Allah. So stand true
to Him, and ask for His Forgiveness." And woe to those who join gods with
Allah. (Surah 41, Ha-Mim, verse 6).
64) And those who take as protectors others
besides Him, - Allah doth watch over them; and thou art not the disposer of
their affairs. (Surah 42, Al-Shura, verse 6).
65) Yet they attribute to some of His servants
a share with Him (in His Godhead)! Truly is man a blasphemous ingrate avowed!
(Surah 43, Al-Zukhruf, verse 15).
66) And they make into females angels who
themselves serve Allah. Did they witness their creation? Their evidence will be
recorded, and they will be called to account! (Surah 43, Al-Zukhruf, verse19).
67) And who is more astray than one who invokes
besides Allah, such as will not answer him to the Day of Judgment, and who (in
fact) are unconscious of their call (to them)? And when mankind are gathered
together (at the Resurrection), they will be hostile to them and reject
their worship (altogether)! (Surah 46,
Al-Ahqaf, verses 5-6).
68) Why then was no help forthcoming to them
from those whom they worshipped as gods, besides Allah, as a means of access
(to Allah)? Nay, they left them in the lurch: but that was their falsehood and
their invention (Surah 46, Al-Zukhruf, verse28).
69) Thy Lord does create and choose as He
pleases: no choices have they (in the matter): Glory to Allah. And far is He
above the partners they ascribe (to Him)! (Surah 28, Al-Qasas, verse 68).
70) Among His Signs are the Night and the Day, and
the Sun and the Moon. Adore not the sun and the moon, but adore Allah, Who
created them, if it is Him ye wish to serve. (Surah 41, Ha-Mim, verse 37).
71) And ye have no good thing but is from
Allah. And moreover, when ye are touched by distress, unto Him ye cry with
groans; yet, when He removes the distress from you, behold!
Some of you turn to other gods to join with
their Lord- (Surah 16, Al-Nahl, verses 53-54).
72) Yet they take (for worship) gods other than
Allah, (hoping) that they might be helped! They have not the power to help
them: but they will be brought up (before Our Judgment-seat) as a troop (to be
condemned). (Surah 36, Ya-Sin, verses 74-75).
73) Say: "Who is it that sustains you (in
life) from the sky and from the earth? Or who is it that has power over hearing
and sight? And who is it that brings out the living from the dead and the dead
from the living? And who is it that rules and regulates all affairs?" They
will soon say, "(Allah)". Say, "Will ye not then show piety (to
Him)?" (Surah 10, Yunus, verse 31).
74) This is the guidance of Allah. He giveth
that guidance to whom He pleaseth, of His worshippers. If they were to join
other gods with Him, all that they did would be vain for them. (Surah 6,
Al-An’am, verse 88).
75) The worshippers of false gods say: "If
Allah had so willed, we should not have worshipped aught but Him - neither we nor
our fathers, - nor should we have prescribed prohibitions other than His."
So did those who went before them. But what is the mission of messengers but to
preach the Clear Message? (Surah 16, An-Nahl, verse 35).
76) Leave alone those who take their religion
to be mere play and amusement, and are deceived by the life of this world. But
proclaim (to them) this (truth): that every soul delivers itself to ruin by its
own acts: it will find for itself no protector or intercessor except Allah. If
it offered every ransom, (or reparation), none will be accepted: such is (the
end of) those who deliver themselves to ruin by their own acts: they will have
for drink (only) boiling water, and for punishment, one most grievous: for they
persisted in rejecting Allah. Say: "Shall we indeed call on others besides
Allah, - things that can do us neither good nor harm, - and turn on our heels
after receiving guidance from Allah. - like one whom the evil ones have made
into a fool, wandering bewildered through the earth, his friends calling, come
to us´, (vainly) guiding him to the path." Say: "(Allah) ´s guidance
is the (only) guidance, and we have been directed to submit ourselves to the
Lord of the worlds; - (Surah 6, Al-An’am, verses 70-71).
77) When trouble touches men, they cry to their
Lord, turning back to Him in repentance: but when He gives them a taste of
Mercy as from Himself, behold, some of them pay part-worship to other gods besides
their Lord, - (As if) to show their ingratitude for the (favours) We have
bestowed on them! Then enjoy (your brief day); but soon will ye know (your
folly). (Surah 30, Al-Rum, verses 33-34).
78) And Allah has made for you mates (and
companions) of your own nature, and made for you, out of them, sons and daughters
and grandchildren, and provided for you sustenance of the best: will they then
believe in vain things, and be ungrateful for Allah’s favours?- And worship
others than Allah,- such as have no power of providing them, for sustenance,
with anything in heavens or earth, and cannot possibly have such power?(Surah
16, Al-Nahl, verses 72-73).
79) Narrated
Abu Dhar: The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said, "Gabriel said to me,
'Whoever amongst your followers dies without having worshipped others besides
Allah, will enter Paradise (or will not enter the (Hell) Fire)." The
Prophet (Peace be upon him) asked. "Even if he has committed illegal
sexual intercourse or theft?" He replied, "Even then." (Sahih
Bukhari: Volume 4, Book 54, Number 445: Book of
Beginning of Creation) (Islambase Publications).
80) Narrated Abdullah: When the Verse:--"It is those who
believe and do not confuse their belief with wrong (i.e. joining others in
worship with Allah" (6.83) was revealed, we said, "O Allah's Apostle
(Peace be upon him)! Who is there amongst us who has not done wrong to
himself?" He replied, "It is not as you say, for 'wrong' in the Verse
and 'do not confuse their belief, with wrong means 'SHIRK' (i.e. joining others
in worship with Allah). Haven't you heard Luqman's saying to his son, 'O my
son! Join not others in worship with Allah, verily joining others in worship
with Allah is a great wrong indeed." (31.13) (Sahih Bukhari: Volume
4, Book 55, Number 580: Book of the Prophets) (Islambase Publications).
81) It
is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (may
peace and blessings be upon him) said: Faith has over seventy branches or over
sixty branches, the most excellent of which is the declaration that there is no
god but Allah, and the humblest of which is the removal of what is injurious
from the path: and modesty is the branch of faith. (Sahih Muslim, Book 1,
Faith, Kitab Al-Iman, Hadees No 56, Chapter 13: Concerning The Branches Of
Iman, http://www.mclean.faithweb.com).
82) Abu Huraira
reported that the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said:
“There is for every apostle a prayer which is granted, but every prophet showed
haste in his prayer. I (Muhammad [Peace be upon him])
have, however, reserved my prayer for the intercession of my Ummah on the Day
of Resurrection, and it would be granted, if Allah so willed, in case of
everyone amongst my Ummah provided he dies without associating anything with
Allah”. (Sahih Muslim Part I; Book of Faith; Hadees no. 389, Chapter LXXXIV,
page 134; 9th edition).
