Intercession (Waseela) and Atonement (Kaffara)

1) The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said, ‘When you hear the Muazzin proclaim the azaan, repeat what he says, then invoke a blessing on me, for everyone who invokes a blessing on me will receive ten blessings from Allah; then beg from Allah al-Wasila for me, which is a rank in Paradise fitting for only one of Allah’s servants. Anyone who asks that I be given the Wasila will be assured of my intercession’. (Sahih Muslim Part I; Book of Salat; Chapter CLV, page 209; 9th edition).
2) Then guard yourself against a Day when one soul shall not avail another, nor shall compensation be accepted from her, nor shall intercession profit her, nor shall anyone be helped (from outside). (Surah 2, Al-Baqarah or the Heifer, verse 48 and 123).
3) Give this warning to those in whose (hearts) is the fear that they will be brought (to Judgement) before their Lord: except for Him, they will have no protector nor intercessor: that they may guard (against evil). (Surah 6, Al-An’am, Verse 51).
4) ‘And behold! Ye come to Us bare and alone as We created you for the first time....We see not with you your intercessors whom ye thought to be partners in your affairs ....’ (Surah 6, Al-An’am, Verse 94 Part).
5) They serve, besides Allah, what can hurt them not nor profit them, and they say: ‘These are our intercessors with Allah.’ Say: ‘Do ye indeed inform Allah of something He knows not in the heavens or on earth? Glory to Him! And far is He above the partners they ascribe (to Him)!’ (Surah 10, Yunus, Verse 18).
6) None shall have the power of intercession, but such a one as has received permission (or promise) from ((Allah)) Most Gracious. (Surah 19, Maryam, verse 87).
7) On the Day that the Hour will be established, the guilty will be struck dumb with despair. No intercessor will they have among their "Partners", and they will (themselves) reject their "Partners". (Surah 30, Ar-Rum, verses 12-13).
8) What! Do they take for intercessors others besides Allah. Say: "Even if they have no power whatever and no intelligence?" Say: "To Allah belongs exclusively (the right to grant) intercession: to Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth: In the End, it is to Him that ye shall be brought back."(Surah 39, Az-Zumar, verses 43-44).
9) And those whom they invoke besides Allah have no power of intercession; - only he who bears witness to the Truth, and they know (him). (Surah 43, Al-Zukhruf, verse86).
10) How many-so-ever be the angels in the heavens, their intercession will avail nothing
except after Allah has given leave for whom He pleases and that he is acceptable to Him. (Surah 53, An-Najm, verse 26).
11) The Day that (all) things secret will be tested, (Man) will have no power, and no helper. (Surah 86, Al Tariq, verses 9-10).
12) Leave alone those who take their religion to be mere play and amusement, and are deceived by the life of this world. But proclaim (to them) this (truth): that every soul delivers itself to ruin by its own acts: it will find for itself no protector or intercessor except Allah. If it offered every ransom, (or reparation), none will be accepted: such is (the end of) those who deliver themselves to ruin by their own acts: they will have for drink (only) boiling water, and for punishment, one most grievous: for they persisted in rejecting Allah. Say: "Shall we indeed call on others besides Allah, - things that can do us neither good nor harm, - and turn on our heels after receiving guidance from Allah. - like one whom the evil ones have made into a fool, wandering bewildered through the earth, his friends calling, come to us´, (vainly) guiding him to the path." Say: "(Allah) ´s guidance is the (only) guidance, and we have been directed to submit ourselves to the Lord of the worlds; - (Surah 6, Al-An’am, verses 70-71).
13) Namely, that no bearer of burdens can bear the burden of another (Surah 53, An-Najm, verse 38).
14) Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. (Surah 74, Al-Mudassir, verse 48).
15) O ye who believe! Do your duty to Allah, seek the means of approach unto Him, and strive with might and main in his cause: that ye may prosper. (Surah 5, Maidah, verse 35).
16) Narrated Al-Abbas bin 'Abdul Muttalib: That he said to the Prophet  (Peace be upon him)  "You have not been of any avail to your uncle (Abu Talib) (though) by Allah, he used to protect you and used to become angry on your behalf." The Prophet said, "He is in a shallow fire, and had it not been for me, he would have been in the bottom of the (Hell) Fire." (Sahih Bukhari: Volume 5, Book 58, Number 222: Book of Merits of Al-Ansar) (Islambase Publications).
17) Narrated Abu Huraira: I said: "O Allah's Apostle (Peace be upon him)! Who will be the luckiest person, who will gain your intercession on the Day of Resurrection?" Allah's Apostle (Peace be upon him) said: O Abu Huraira! "I have thought that none will ask me about it before you as I know your longing for the (learning of) Hadiths. The luckiest person who will have my intercession on the Day of Resurrection will be the one who said sincerely from the bottom of his heart "None has the right to be worshipped but Allah." (Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 3, Number 98: Book of Knowledge [Ilm]) (Islambase Publications).
18) Narrated Abdullah: Regarding the explanation of the Verse: 'Those whom they call upon (worship) (like Jesus the Son of Mary, angels etc.) desire (for themselves) means of access to their Lord (Allah) as to which of them should be the nearer and they hope for His Mercy and fear His torment.' (17.57) They themselves (e.g. Angels, saints, Apostles, Jesus, etc.,) worshipped Allah, Those Jinns who were worshipped by some Arabs became Muslims (embraced Islam), but those human beings stuck to their (old) religion. Al-Amash said extra: 'Say, (O Muhammad): Call unto those besides Him whom you assume (to be gods).' (17.56) (Sahih Bukhari: Volume 6, Book 60, Number 238: Book of Prophetic Commentary on the Quran [Tafseer]) (Islambase Publications).
19) Abdullah b. Amr b. al−As reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: When you hear the Mu'adhdhin, repeat what he says, then invoke a blessing on me, for everyone who invokes a blessing on me will receive ten blessings from Allah; then beg from Allah al−Wasila for me, which is a rank in Paradise fitting for only one of Allah's servants, and I hope that I may be that one. If anyone who asks that I be given the Wasila, he will be assured of my intercession. (Sahih Muslim, Book 4, Prayers, Kitab Al-Salat Hadees No 747, Chapter 5: He Who Hears The Adhan Should Respond Like It, Invoke Blessings Upon The Apostle (May Peace Be Upon Him) And Then Beg For Him The Wasilahttp://Www.Mclean.Faithweb.Com ).
